Frequently asked questions about calf supports
Calf supports for runners and athletes
A calf support provides targeted compression and comfortable warmth around the lower leg. The purpose is to relieve the calf during running, ball games and everyday activities. A calf support can relieve problems such as periosteum inflammation, muscle strain and the cramp-like feeling often called old man's calf. By stabilizing the muscles, increasing blood circulation and reducing muscle fatigue, the step becomes safer and the recovery is faster. Models with anatomical design sit firmly without slipping, and breathable materials wick away moisture so that the skin feels dry even during longer sessions. You can choose elastic compression sleeves for training and recovery or adjustable versions with Velcro if you want to be able to regulate the pressure during the day. Neoprene and NeoTex maintain even heat, while textile fibers with gradual compression are often particularly suitable for running or longer trips. Whether you are rehabilitating after a strain or want to prevent new problems, there is a protector that supports the way back.
Our range includes calf supports with an anatomical fit in different materials and compression levels, adapted for both training, work and everyday stress.
Why use calf supports?
The compression gently squeezes around the muscle belly and provides external support that reduces vibrations in the tissue. It can reduce pain, reduce swelling and allow for a faster return to normal activity. The heat increases local circulation, which in turn promotes healing and counteracts stiffness. The combination makes calf protection useful both in the acute stage and as a preventive aid for runners who want to run longer with fresh legs.
The different functions and properties of calf supports
Compression
Provides even pressure over the calf muscle that supports the muscles, reduces swelling and can relieve fatigue.
Stability
Contributes to reduced muscle vibration during exercise, which can reduce the risk of irritation and strains.
Heat
Creates local heat that increases blood flow and can relieve stiffness and muscular tension.
Anatomical fit
Designed to follow the shape of the lower leg and sit comfortably without restricting movement.
How to find the right model
- Identify your problems
- Periostitis: choose compression over the shinbone and light heat
- Acute muscle strain: a more enveloping protection that combines compression and heat is suitable.
- Gubbvad: stable compression during warm-up and the first few weeks back in training often gives the best results.
- Measure the circumference of your calf at its widest point. The size guide is almost always based on this measurement.
- Feel how much pressure is needed. The compression should feel firm but not restrict blood flow.
- Match the protection with the rest of your equipment. If you train often, you can supplement with a thigh support for the back of the thigh or a knee brace if you also need support around the knee.
- Use the protection during the warm-up, throughout the workout and, if necessary, afterwards to promote recovery.
