Neck pain

Neck pain and stiffness are one of the most common musculoskeletal problems. The discomfort is often caused by holding the head in an unfavorable position for a long time, for example when working on a computer or using a mobile phone. The pain can last for days or weeks, but often subsides gradually.

What is neck pain?

Neck pain occurs when the muscles, joints or ligaments in the neck are stressed incorrectly. A forward head position increases the strain on the neck muscles and leads to stiffness, aches and sometimes radiating pain to the shoulders or head. These problems are common in today's sedentary working life.

Common causes & risk factors

The most common causes of neck pain are static working positions, such as in front of a computer or mobile phone. Stress, poor posture, weak neck and shoulder muscles and monotonous movements can also increase the risk. Cold drafts or cooling of the neck muscles can also worsen the problem.

Symptom

  • Stiffness and pain in the neck
  • Pain that worsens with movement
  • Soreness in the neck muscles
  • Headache or feeling of tension that may radiate from the neck
  • Limited range of motion

When should you seek medical attention?

Seek medical attention if the pain does not improve within a few weeks, if you experience numbness or weakness in your arms, or if the symptoms are very intense and affect your everyday life.

Recommended protection & support

Neck collars and heated neck supports can help relieve strain, reduce muscle tension and relieve pain. Ergonomic pillows can provide better support during rest and sleep. Combined with movement, breaks and adapted working posture, the supports help reduce strain and facilitate recovery.
